Oil Seal and/or Bearing Replacement
REAR AXLE- OIL SEAL AND BEARINGRemoval Procedure
^ Tools Required
- J 2619-01 Slide Hammer
- J 22813-01 Axle Bearing Puller
1. Remove the brake drum and the wheel.
2. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Axle Shaft Replacement.
3. Remove the seal. Use a seal removal tool behind the steel case of the seal. Do NOT damage the housing.
4. Remove the bearing. Use the J 2619-01 and the J 22813-01 as shown. The tangs of the tool should engage the bearing outer race.
Installation Procedure

- J 23765 Axle Shaft Bearing Installer
- J 23771 Axle Shaft Seal Installer
1. Install the bearing using the J 23765 until the tool bottoms against the housing shoulder.
2. Lubricate the bearing using axle lubricant.
3. Install the seal. Use the J 23771 until the seal is flush with the axle tube.
4. Lubricate the seal lips using axle lubricant.
5. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Axle Shaft Replacement.
6. Install the brake drum and the wheel.
