Power Steering Pump Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

- Tools Required
- J25034-C Power Steering Pump Pulley Remover






1. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement in Engine Cooling.
2. Remove the drive belt.
3. Remove the fan clutch from the water pump. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.
4. Install J 25034-C to the power steering pump pulley.
Ensure that the pilot bottoms in the pump shaft by turning the nut to the top of the pilot bolt.
5. Hold the pilot bolt.
6. Turn the nut clockwise.





7. Remove the power steering pump pulley.
8. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
9. Remove steering linkage shield. Refer to Steering Linkage Shield Replacement in Steering Linkage.
10. Place a drain pan below the pump.
11. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump.
12. Lower the vehicle.





13. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the power steering pump.
14. Cap the power steering pump hoses.





15. Remove the filler neck tube.





16. Remove the power steering rear bracket nut from the engine stud.
17. Remove the power steering lower retaining nut from the engine stud.





18. Remove the power steering pump front mounting bolts.
19. Remove the power steering pump.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

- J 25033-C Power Steering Pump Pulley Installer





1. Install the power steering pump.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the power steering pump front mounting bolts.
- Tighten the power steering pump front mounting bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).





3. Install the rear bracket nut to the engine stud.
4. Install the power steering pump front mounting nut to engine stud.
- Tighten the power steering rear bracket nut and the power steering pump front mounting nut to 41 Nm (31 ft. lbs.).





5. Install the filler neck tube.
- Tighten the neck tube bolt to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).





6. Connect the power steering return hose to the power steering pump.
7. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
8. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump.
9. Install steering linkage shield. Refer to Steering Linkage Shield Replacement in Steering Linkage.
10. Lower the vehicle.





11. Place the power steering pump pulley on the end of the power steering pump shaft.





12. Install J25033-C. Ensure that the pilot bolt bottoms in the shaft by turning the nut to the top of the pilot bolt.
13. Hold the pilot bolt.
14. Turn the nut counterclockwise.
15. Install the power steering pump pulley.





16. Install the pulley (1) flush against the end of the power steering pump shaft (2), with an allowable variance of 0.25 mm (0.010 in).
17. Install the fan clutch to the water pump. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.
18. Install the drive belt.
19. Install the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement in Engine Cooling.
20. Fill the power steering system.
21. Bleed the system. Refer to Bleeding Power Steering System.
22. Inspect the hoses for clearance.
