Exhaust Pipe: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Disconnect the LH Heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) electrical connection.





3. Disconnect the RH heated oxygen sensor (H02S) electrical connection.
4. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (4.3L RWD) or Catalytic Converter Replacement (4.3L 4WD).





5. Remove the exhaust manifold pipe to manifold flange nuts.
6. Remove the exhaust manifold pipe from the vehicle.
7. Remove the heated oxygen sensors (H02S) as necessary.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the Heated Oxygen Sensors (H02S) as necessary.
2. Install the exhaust manifold pipe to the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the exhaust manifold pipe to manifold flange nuts.
^ Tighten the exhaust manifold pipe to manifold flange nuts to 53 Nm (39 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (4.3L RWD) or Catalytic Converter Replacement (4.3L 4WD).
5. Connect the heated oxygen sensor (H02S) electrical connection.





6. Disconnect the RH heated oxygen sensor (H02S) electrical connection.





7. Disconnect the LH heated oxygen sensor (H02S) electrical connection.
8. Lower the vehicle.
