Oil Pan Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Remove the oil level indicator.
3. Remove the front differential assembly.
4. Remove the starter.
5. Remove the transmission cover.
6. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil into a suitable container.
7. Remove the remote oil filter pipe adapter.
8. Remove the bolt holding the remote oil filter inlet and outlet hose clip to the oil pan.
9. Remove the bolt holding the bracket for the starter wire harness and if equipped, the transmission cooler pipes.
10. Remove the access plugs for the oil pan rear nuts.
11. Remove the following oil pan fasteners:
^ Remove ten oil pan bolts.
^ Remove two nuts at the crankshaft rear oil seal.
^ Remove the transmission to oil pan bolts.
12. Remove the oil pan from the engine. Refer to Oil Pan Removal. 18. Oil Pan Removal
13. Clean all sealing surfaces. Refer to Oil Pan Clean and Inspect. 51. Oil Pump Clean and Inspect
Installation Procedure
Notice: Any time the transmission and the engine oil pan are off of the engine at the same time, install the transmission before the oil pan. This is to allow for the proper measurement of the oil pan tolerance. Failure to achieve the correct clearance can result in premature transmission failure.
1. Install the oil pan. 71. Oil Pan Installation
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the transmission to oil pan bolts.
^ Tighten the transmission to the oil pan bolts to 47 Nm (35 lb ft).
3. Install the access plugs for the oil pan rear nuts.
4. Install the bolt holding the bracket for the starter wire harness and if equipped, the transmission cooler pipes.
^ Tighten the bolt to 12 Nm (106 lb in).
5. Install the remote oil filter pipe adapter.
6. Install the bolt holding the oil filter inlet and outlet hose clip to the oil pan.
^ Tighten the hose clip bolt to 10 Nm (88 lb in).
7. Install the transmission cover and bolts.
^ Tighten the transmission cover bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb in).
8. Install the starter motor.
9. Install the front differential assembly.
10. Install the oil level indicator.
11. Fill the engine with engine oil.
12. Connect the battery negative cable.
