Oil Pump Drive Shaft: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery.
^ For the front battery, refer to Battery Cable Replacement (Battery Cable Negative) in Starting and Charging.
^ For the auxiliary battery, refer to Battery Cable Replacement (Battery Cable Aux. Negative) in Starting and Charging.

2. Remove the engine cover from the vehicle.
3. Remove the upper intake manifold from the lower intake manifold.
4. Remove the turbo charger from the engine block.





5. Remove the clamp and bolt from the engine block.





6. Remove the oil pump drive from the engine block.





7. Remove the O-ring from oil pump drive.

Installation Procedure

Important: When replacing the oil pump drive gear, always use a new O-ring.





1. Install the O-ring on the oil pump drive.

Important: Clean the bore and apply a small amount of clean engine oil in the bore and the seal for the oil pump drive gear. The oil pump drive gear should slide into place with slight resistance. Do not force the oil pump drive gear into place.





2. Install the oil pump drive in the engine block.





3. Install the oil pump drive clamp and bolt on the engine block.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice Service Precautions.

4. Install the oil pump drive clamp bolt.
^ Tighten the bolt to 42 Nm (31 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the turbo charger on the engine block.
6. Install the upper intake manifold from the lower intake manifold.
7. Install the engine cover on the vehicle.
8. Connect the battery negative cables to the batteries.
