Engine Oil Dip Stick - Dip Stick Tube: Service and Repair
Removal Procedure1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
2. Remove the engine cover.
3. Remove the bolt holding both oil level indicator tubes together.
4. Remove the top half of the oil level indicator tube from the bottom half.
5. Clean the old sealer from the tube.
6. Remove the spark plug for the number 4 cylinder.
7. Remove the oil level indicator tube bolt.
8. Remove the oil level indicator tube from the engine using a twisting motion.
9. Clean the old sealer from the oil level indicator tube and the engine block.
Installation Procedure
1. Apply sealer GM P/N 12346004 or equivalent, to the end of the oil level indicator tube 13 mm (0.5 inch) below the tube head.
2. Install the oil level indicator tube to the engine block. The indicator tube collar must be installed flush to the engine block.
3. Line up the oil level indicator tube with the spark plug retainer.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
4. Install the bolt.
- Tighten the oil level indicator tube bolt to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
5. Install the spark plug for the number 4 cylinder.
6. Apply sealer, GM P/N 12346004 or equivalent, to the end of the oil level indicator tube top half.
7. Install the oil level indicator tube top half to the bottom half.
8. Secure the engine oil level indicator tube to the transmission oil level indicator tube with the bolt.
- Tighten the bolt to 13 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
9. Install the engine cover.
10. Install the air cleaner assembly.
