Lifter / Lash Adjuster: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

- Tools Required
- J 3049-A Valve Lifter Remover.

1. Remove the intake manifold.





2. Remove the push rods.

Important: The valve lifters and guides must be installed in the same location from which they were removed.





3. Remove the valve lifter retainer and the guides.





4. Remove the valve lifters one at a time.
5. Place the lifters and guides in an organizer rack.





6. A stuck valve lifter can be removed using the J 3049-A. Refer to Cylinder Head Replacement in order to obtain access to the valve lifter.
7. Inspect the valve lifter.

Installation Procedure

Important:
- When new valve lifters or a new camshaft is installed, change the engine oil and the oil filter.
- Add Engine Oil Supplement GM P/N 1051396 or the equivalent to the engine oil.
- Replace all the valve lifters when a new camshaft is installed.
Install the valve lifters one at a time.





1. Install the push rods.
2. Install the intake manifold.
