With Transmission After Before Feb.9,1987
NOTE: The following reverse input clutch backing plate selection procedure is for transmissions built after February 9, 1987:
1. With the reverse input clutch fully assembled, apply an evenly distributed load to the clutch pack in the direction and diameter indicated in image.
2. A medium pressure of approximately 20 lbs. on the backing plate applied by fingers on five evenly distributed points will obtain the backing' plate travel for measurement Do not apply excessive pressure1 or distortion of the "belleville" plate will result.
3. Using a feeler gauge, measure between snap ring and backing plate.
Backing plate travel should be 0.040-0.O75 inch.
4. Select the proper backing plate to obtain the specified travel.
