Subject: Information on Servicing Plastic Components and Transferring on a New Service Engine
Models:
2011-2012 Chevrolet Cruze, Sonic, Volt
Condition/Concern
The following information maybe helpful for a technician, when transferring components from an engine that was damaged due to overheating, to the new service engine.
Plastic components such as the intake manifold, coolant outlet housing and the turbocharger return oil pipe should to be examined closely for heat damage. High engine temperatures can melt the plastic in areas where the parts contact the metal engine surface.

For the 1.8L, (404) in the illustration above.
Another plastic part that is not obvious to inspect is the oil filter check valve. If this part shows signs of damage, it could cause low oil pressure on the new service engine.
