Date: May 15, 2012

Subject: Information on Servicing Plastic Components and Transferring on a New Service Engine

Models:
2011-2012 Chevrolet Cruze, Sonic, Volt

Condition/Concern

The following information maybe helpful for a technician, when transferring components from an engine that was damaged due to overheating, to the new service engine.

Plastic components such as the intake manifold, coolant outlet housing and the turbocharger return oil pipe should to be examined closely for heat damage. High engine temperatures can melt the plastic in areas where the parts contact the metal engine surface.

Note
For the 1.4L, (405) in the illustration above.

Note
For the 1.8L, (404) in the illustration above.

Another plastic part that is not obvious to inspect is the oil filter check valve. If this part shows signs of damage, it could cause low oil pressure on the new service engine.
