Engine Control Module Programming and Setup

The following service procedures require either a programming or a setup event be performed for a complete repair.

ECM Replacement

Warning

Replacement or reprogramming of the ECM, or replacement of the clutch pedal position sensor (CPPS) or clutch pedal requires that a CPPS learn procedure be performed. Failure to perform the CPPS learn procedure may result in personal injury or damage to the vehicle or its components if the vehicle is in gear and the starter motor is accidentally engaged.

If the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed:

1. ECM Reprogramming-Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) (Service Programming System (SPS)).
2. Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learn-Refer to Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learn (MU3 - Manual Transmission).
3. Crankshaft Position (CKP) Variation Learn for 2.2L engine only-Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn ().
4. Theft Deterrent Programming-Refer to Theft Deterrent Module Programming and Setup (N. America except Canada) (Testing and Inspection)Theft Deterrent Module Programming and Setup (Canada) (Programming and Relearning).
5. Throttle Learn Procedure-Refer to Throttle/Idle Learn (With Turbocharger) (Testing and Inspection) for the 2.0L or Throttle/Idle Learn () for the 2.2L.

ECM Reprogramming

If the ECM needs to be reprogrammed, refer to Service Programming System (SPS) (Service Programming System (SPS)).

Setup for Component Replacement For 2.2L Engine Only

The replacement of some components will require a setup procedure for complete repair.

If any of the following components are replaced, a CKP Variation Learn Procedure must be performed. Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn ().

* Engine replacement
* Any engine repair that disturbs the CKP sensor or it's relationship with the crankshaft reluctor wheel
* CKP sensor

If the throttle body is replaced or a throttle body cleaning procedure is completed, the Throttle/Idle Learn Procedure must be performed. Refer to Throttle/Idle Learn (With Turbocharger) (Testing and Inspection) for the 2.0L or Throttle/Idle Learn () for the 2.2L.
