Balance Shaft Installation

J 43650 - Balance Shaft Bushing Remover/Installer
For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools (Special Tools)
Note: Service the balance shafts as an assembly. Do not disassemble or assemble the balance shafts.
1. Install the balance shaft bushing using the J 43650 - installer.
2. Seat the balance shaft bushing into the bore using the J 43650 - installer and a wrench.
3. When the J 43650 - installer is fully seated in the engine block, remove it with a wrench.
Note: If the balance shafts are not properly timed to the engine, the engine may vibrate or make noise.
4. Install the balance shaft assemblies to the engine using the following steps:
1. Place the number 1 piston at top dead center (TDC).
2. Lubricate the balance shaft lobes with engine oil.
3. Install the balance shafts into their bores.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
5. Install the balance shaft retaining bolts and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
