Differential Case Disassemble
Special Tools
* 87 92 210 - Support, Differential Bearing
* J 8107-2 - Side Bearing Puller Pilot
* J 22888-20A - Universal Two Jaw Puller
For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools (MU3 - Manual Transmission).
1. Mount the differential in a vise with soft jaws.
Caution: The thread on adapter must be used on the 5th gear puller when removing the differential bearings. If the adapter is not used, the puller can be damaged.
2. Remove the differential bearings using the J 22888-20A - jaw puller with the J 8107-2 - puller pilot. Use the 87 92 210 - differential bearing as a base for the puller as shown.
3. Disassemble the differential gear assembly by removing 12 ring gear-to-case bolts (306). Separate the differential case (320) from the ring gear (307).
An option for limited slip differential or open differential exists for some models. See inset. Both differential assemblies are serviced only as a complete assembly. The bolts, ring gear and tapered roller bearings are serviceable components.
