13. Clutch B/E Measurement Procedure

Clutch B/E Measurement Procedure

Tools Required
* DT 46477 (DW260-090) Clutch B/E Measuring Fixture
* DT 46478 (DW260-100) Brake B/E Disc Thickness Gage
* DT 46480 (DW260-120) Clutch B Adjusting Ring
* DT 46481 (DW260-130) Clutch E Adjusting Ring

Determine Snap Ring Play

1. Install the disc set to DT 46477 (1).
2. Put the dial gage sensor on the clutch B adjusting ring.
3. Feed the compressed air to clutch B through the control valves.
4. Set the dial gage to 0.
5. Pressurize clutch E via the control valve and read the measurement value.
6. Repeat the measurement twice with the disc set turned by 120 degrees.
7. The average measurement values M1, M2, M3. Measurement value is S.

* CALCULATION
S = (M1 + M2 + M3)/3
* EXAMPLE
M1 = 0.27 mm (0.011 in), M2 = 0.23 mm (0.009 in), M3 = 0.25 mm (0.010 in)
S = 0.25 mm (0.010 in)

Measuring Installation Space, Clutch B (EB)

1. Install the disc set to DT 46477 (1).
2. Place the dial gage sensor on DT 46480 .
3. Feed the compressed air to clutch E through the control valves.
4. Set the dial gage to zero.
5. Lift the measurement ring B by hand until it touches the cup and reads the measurement value.
6. Repeat the measurement twice with the disc set turned by 120 degrees.
7. The average measurement values M4, M5, M6. Measurement value is MB.

* The minimum installation space EB is equal to the height of the ring RB plus measurement value MB.

The specification value for the height of the ring RB is 11.99 mm (0.472 in).

* CALCULATION
MB = (M4 + M5 + M6)/3
EB = RB + MB
* EXAMPLE
M4 = 2.36 mm (0.093 in)
M5 = 2.40 mm (0.094 in)
M6 = 2.38 mm (0.094 in)
So, MB = (2.36 + 2.40 + 2.38)/3 = 2.38 mm [(0.093 + 0.094 + 0.094)/3 = 0.094 in]
EB = 11.99 + 2.38 = 14.37 mm (0.472 + 0.094 = 0.556 in)

Measuring Installation Space, Clutch E (EE)

1. Install the disc set to the DT 46477 (1).
2. Place the dial gage sensor on DT 46481 .
3. Set the dial gage to 0.
4. Feed the compressed air to clutch E via the control valves.
5. Read the measurement value.
6. Repeat the measurement twice with the disc set turned by 120 degrees.
7. The average measurement values M7, M8, M9. Measurement value is ME.

* The minimum installation space BE is equal to the ring height RE plus ME minus snap ring play S.

The specification value of the ring height RE is 20.98 mm (0.826 in).

* CALCULATION
ME = (M7 + M8 + M9)/3
EE = RE + ME - S
* EXAMPLE
M7 = 2.6 mm (0.102 in)
M8 = 2.55 mm (0.100 in)
M9 = 2.54 mm (0.100 in)
So, ME = (2.6 + 2.55 + 2.54)/3 = 2.56 mm [(0.102 + 0.100 + 0.100)/3 = 0.101 in]
EE = 20.98 + 2.56 - 0.25 = 23.29 mm (0.826 + 0.101 - 0.010 = 0.917 in)

Determining Adjusting Disc B (PB)

1. Install the disc to DT 46478 (1).
2. Using the disc thickness gage, determine thickness ME for the disc set clutch B, without adjusting the disc, which is located in the second highest plate.
3. Calculate the test dimension PB - PB = EB - MB
EB = installation space
MB = disc set thickness
EXAMPLE
EB = 14.37 mm (0.566 in)
MB = 11.3 mm (0.445 in)
PB = 3.07 mm (0.121 in)
4. Find the disc set thickness. Refer to Transmission General Specifications Transmission General Specifications.
PB is 3.07 mm (0.121 in), so the disc set thickness is 1.8 mm (0.070 in).
5. Replace clutch B setting disc 1.8 mm (0.070 in).

Determining Adjusting Disc E (PE)

1. Install the DT 46478 (1).
2. Using the disc thickness gage, determine thickness MB for the disc set for clutch E, without adjusting the disc, which is located in the lowest plate.
3. Calculate the test dimension PE - PE = EE - ME.
EE = installation space
MB = disc set thickness
EXAMPLE
EE = 23.29 mm (0.917 in)
ME = 16.70 mm (0.657 in)
PE = 6.59 mm (0.260 in)
4. Find the disc set thickness. Refer to Transmission General Specifications Transmission General Specifications.
PE is 6.59 mm (0.260 in), so the disc set thickness is 5.0 mm (0.20 in).
5. Replace clutch B setting disc 5.0 mm (0.20 in).
