Subject: Extended Cranking Time or Hard to Start (Reprogram ECM Using SPS)

Models:
2006-2007 Chevrolet Optra
with 2.0L 4-Cylinder Engine (VIN Z - RPO L34) and 4-Speed Automatic Transaxle
Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint 7K617304

Condition
Some customers with vehicles equipped with automatic transaxies may comment on extended cranking time or that the engine is hard to start, after an overnight cold soak in 15-20°C (59-68°F) temperatures. After starting the engine, there may be no symptoms or DTCs and the condition may not occur when restarting.

Cause
This condition may be caused by a lean fuel condition in temperatures between 15-20°C (59-68°F).

This condition affects vehicles equipped with automatic transaxles only; vehicles equipped with manual transaxles are not affected.

Correction
Reprogram the engine control module (ECM) with the appropriate calibration following the procedure below.

Important:
Prior to reprogramming, check the battery voltage state. If the battery is not fully charged, charge the battery.

Important:
Prior to reprogramming, make sure the Tech 2(R) is updated with the latest software.

1. Reprogram the ECM with the appropriate calibration (or later) listed below. These calibrations, or any that follow, are designed to address this concern. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) in SI. For the appropriate calibration, refer to Calibration Information below.

The new ECM calibrations will be available to dealerships on TIS2Web version 2.5 for 2007 (available 2/19/07).

2. Check for any DTCs in the ECM/TCM. Clear any DTCs that are stored.
