THIS PRODUCT ENHANCEMENT INCLUDES VEHICLES IN DEALER INVENTORY AND CUSTOMER VEHICLES THAT RETURN FOR ANY TYPE OF SERVICE, AND WILL EXPIRE AT THE END OF THE INVOLVED VEHICLE'S NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY PERIOD.
Purpose
It has been found that the CHMSL (Center High Mount Stop Lamp) connector protective sponge (2) was melted because the sponge was keeping in contact with the trunk room lamp bulb (1) while the trunk was open for more than 2 minutes.
No damage of wiring harness in protective sponge was detected. The sponge is noncom bustible material and verified to have no possibility of fire occurrence.
Vehicles Involved
A list of involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory is attached to the Administrative Message (GM US) or Dealer Communication (Canada) used to release this bulletin. Customer vehicles that return for service, for any reason, and are still covered under the vehicles base warranty, and are within the VIN breakpoints provided below, should be checked for vehicle eligibility in the appropriate system listed below.
Important:
Dealers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using GMVIS. Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved.
Service Procedure

Unless the negative battery cable is disconnected, the Ef 19 fuse (BAT+) might be blown while handling the trunk room lamp wiring harness.
1. Open a hood and then disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Open the trunk lid.
3. Remove a trunk lamp assembly using a screwdriver (1). No need to disconnect the trunk room lamp wiring harness connector.
Notice
If the wiring harness in protective sponge was damaged, the affected wires should be wrapped up with electric insulation tape.
4. Push and relocate the CHMSL connector inside the back panel upper backward to keep a distance between trunk room lamp bulb and wiring harness sponge.
5. Install the trunk lamp assembly.
6. Connect the negative battery cable and set time on digital clock.
