Subject: Airbag Readiness Light On with DTC B1352, B1356, B1378, and/or B1382 Set (Relocate Side Airbag Wires)

Models:
2005-2006 Chevrolet Optra
Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint 6K425022

Condition
Some customers may comment that the airbag readiness light is on. Technicians may find DTC B1352, B1356, B1378, and/or B1382 set in the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) memory.

Cause
This condition may be caused by a poor wiring connection to the side airbag module at the side airbag connector under the front seats.

Correction
Reroute the side airbag connector and wires and secure the connector with Velcro(R) tape following the procedure below:

1. Check the DTC in SDM memory to determine which airbag connector is affected.

^ DTC B1352 or B1378: side airbag connector under driver seat

^ DTC B1356 or B1382: side airbag connector under passenger seat

2. Disable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SI.

3. Adjust the height and front/back position of the seat as desired for easier access to the underside of the seat.

Important:
Take care not to damage the side airbag wiring harness when cutting the cable tie strap.

4. Cut the cable tie strap holding the side airbag wiring harness to the seat frame.

5. Secure the side airbag wiring connector and harness to the floor using Velcro(R) tape.

^ For the driver side airbag harness, place the harness on the floor to the left (outboard) of the HVAC floor duct. Place a piece of Velcro(R) tape over the connector to secure the harness.

^ For the passenger side airbag harness, place the harness on the floor to the right (outboard) of the HVAC floor duct. Place a piece of Velcro(R) tape over the connector to secure the harness.

6. Reconnect the side airbag wiring harness and reposition the seat to the original customer configuration.

7. Repeat Steps 3-6 for the opposite side seat.

8. Enable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SI.

9. Using a scan tool, check and clear any DTCs in SDM memory. Make sure that the Airbag Readiness Light does not remain on after the next ignition cycle.
