Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair




Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Replacement

Removal Procedure





Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the power steering pump, if equipped. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering System.
3. Remove the A/C compressor. Refer to Compressor Replacement Service and Repair in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
4. Remove the rear A/C compressor mounting bracket bolts and the rear A/C compressor mounting bracket.
5. Remove the accessory mounting bracket by removing the bolts.




6. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor connector.
7. Remove the CKP sensor retaining bolt.
8. Gently rotate and remove the CKP sensor from the engine block.

Installation Procedure




1. Insert the CKP sensor into the engine block.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the CKP sensor retaining bolt.

Tighten the crankshaft position sensor retaining bolt to 8 Nm (71 lb in).

3. Connect the CKP sensor connector.




4. Install the accessory mounting bracket with the bolts.

Tighten the accessory mounting bracket bolts to 27 Nm (37 lb ft).




5. Install the rear A/C mounting bracket.

Tighten the rear A/C mounting bracket bolts to 35 Nm(26 lb ft).

6. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to Compressor Replacement Service and Repair in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
7. Install the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering System.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
