Instrument Panel (I/P) Assembly Replacement

Removal Procedure





Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the floor console. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor Service and Repair.
3. Remove the sun sensor. Refer to Sun Load Sensor Replacement Service and Repair in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
4. Remove the stereo cassette AM/FM radio. Refer to Radio Replacement Service and Repair in Entertainment.
5. Remove the center molding.
6. Remove the instrument cluster dimmer switch assembly.
7. Remove the instrument cluster trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster (Four Door) Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster (Four Door)Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster (Five Door/Wagon) Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster (Five Door/Wagon).
8. Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement.
9. Remove the glove box and the glove box housing. Refer to Storage Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Service and Repair.
10. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement Knee Bolster Replacement.




11. Remove the screws and the instrument panel (I/P) side covers.
12. Remove the screw and the I/P fuse block.




13. Remove the nuts and the bolts securing the steering column.
14. Disconnect the steering column electrical connector.
15. Lower the steering column.




16. Remove bolts and screws.
17. Remove the connecting pieces.




18. Remove the bolt securing the middle of the I/P to the body.




19. Remove the I/P screws behind the glove box brace.




20. Remove the bolts securing the sides of the I/P to the body.
21. Disconnect the I/P electrical connectors.
22. Remove the I/P.

Installation Procedure




1. Position the I/P in the vehicle.
2. Connect the I/P electrical connectors.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

3. Install the bolts securing the sides of the I/P to the body.

Tighten the I/P-to-body bolts to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).




4. Install the I/P screws behind the glove box brace.




5. Install the bolt securing the middle of the I/P to the body.

Tighten the I/P-to-body bolts to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).




6. Install the connecting pieces with bolts and screws.

Tighten the connecting pieces bolts to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).




7. Raise the steering column.
8. Connect the steering column electrical connector.
9. Install the nuts and the bolts securing the steering column.

Tighten
* Tighten the steering column nuts to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).
* Tighten the steering column bolts to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).




10. Install the I/P fuse block with the screw.
11. Install the I/P side covers with the screws.




12. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement Knee Bolster Replacement.
13. Install the glove box and the glove box housing. Refer to Storage Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Service and Repair.
14. Install the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement.
15. Install the instrument cluster trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster (Four Door) Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster (Four Door)Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster (Five Door/Wagon) Trim Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster (Five Door/Wagon).
16. Install the instrument cluster dimmer switch assembly.
17. Install the stereo cassette AM/FM radio. Refer to Radio Replacement Service and Repair in Entertainment.
18. Install the center molding.
19. Install the sun sensor. Refer to Sun Load Sensor Replacement Service and Repair in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
20. Install the floor console. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor Service and Repair.
21. Connect the negative battery cable.
