Starter Motor: Service and Repair



Starter Motor Replacement (RPO LSJ)

Removal Procedure





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
3. Remove the charge air cooler pump.
4. Remove the starter solenoid terminal nut (6).
5. Remove the positive battery cable terminal (5) and the starter solenoid terminal (4) from the starter.





6. Remove the starter solenoid "S" terminal nut (1).
7. Remove the engine harness terminal (2) from the starter.





8. Remove the starter bolts.
9. Remove the starter.

Installation Procedure





1. Position the starter to the engine.

2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the starter bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).





3. Install the engine harness terminal (2) to the starter.
4. Install the starter solenoid "S" terminal nut (1).
^ Tighten the nut to 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.).





5. Install the starter solenoid terminal (4) and the positive battery cable terminal (5) to the starter. Ensure that the anti-rotational tab on the positive battery cable terminal is correctly located into the indexing slot.
6. Install the starter solenoid terminal nut (6).
^ Tighten the nut to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).
7. Install the charge air cooler pump.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Connect the negative battery cable.
