C0552

DTC C0552

Circuit Description
When ignition voltage is supplied to the electronic brake control module (EBCM), it becomes active. Battery positive voltage is used by the EBCM to run the antilock brake system (ABS), traction control system (TCS), vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) and dynamic rear proportion (DRP). When the key is turned OFF and ignition voltage is removed from the EBCM, the system performs an internal shutdown procedure.

DTC Descriptor
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC C0552 Improper Shutdown

Conditions for Running the DTC
The ABS conditions and the braking conditions are normal.

Conditions for Setting the DTC
Battery positive voltage or the EBCM ground circuit is disconnected during system operation.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets
There are no actions taken specifically for this DTC. Serial data communication DTCs will normally be accompanied with DTC C0552. The following actions are a result of a loss of communication with the EBCM:
^ The EBCM is disabled.
^ Dynamic rear proportion (DRP) is disabled.
^ The Brake Warning indicator turns ON.
^ The traction control system (TCS) is disabled.
^ The vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) is disabled.
^ The ABS indicator turns ON.
^ The driver information center (DIC) displays the Service Stability System message.
^ The DIC displays the Service Traction System message.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC
^ The condition for the DTC is no longer present and the DTC is cleared with a scan tool.
^ The EBCM automatically clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Diagnostic Aids
Possible causes of this DTC are the following conditions:
^ A loss of battery ground
^ A disconnected battery
^ A sudden drop in the system voltage to less than 5 volts
^ Poor power or ground connections
^ An internal EBCM malfunction

Test Description

Step 1 - Step 6:

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.
2. If the battery was disconnected before the EBCM was fully shut down, the DTC will set.
6. This step determines whether the DTC resets.
