Brake Master Cylinder: Description and Operation
Figure 5A-1 Exploded View Of Master Cylinder Assembly:
Disc brakes are used at the front of the vehicle and leading-trailing type drum brakes at the rear. The brake piping runs from the right front wheel to the left rear wheel and from the left front wheel to the right rear wheel in an 'X" configuration. This diagonally split system is designed for safety and reliability.
Proportioning valves are used to prevent rear wheel lock during hard braking. The brake system also utilizes a 7 in. vacuum servo (booster) in addition to a tandem type master cylinder.
