"D" Range Test 3






Perform test with transmission fluid at normal operating temperatures.

1. Operate Vehicle in OD Gear "D" range, then with lock-up in operation, check for abnormal noise and vibration. Check for cause of abnormal noise and vibration. The cause of these abnormalities could be due to an unbalanced driveshaft, differential, tires and/or torque converter.
2. Operate vehicle in "D" range 2nd, 3rd and OD gears, then check that the possible kick-down vehicle speed limits for 2-1, 3-1, 3-2 OD-2 and OD-2 kick-downs conform to indicated in chart. Also check for abnormal shock and slip during kick-down.
3. While operating vehicle approximately 50 mph in "D" range OD gear, shift into 2 and L ranges and check for engine braking effect in each range.
4. If no engine braking effect is felt in 2 range 3rd gear, a defective second brake is indicated. If no engine braking effect is felt in 2nd ear, 2nd brake and second coast brake are defective.
5. If no engine braking effect is felt in "L" range 2nd gear, second brake and second coast brake are defective. If no engine braking effect is felt in 1st gear, 1st and reverse brake are defective.
6. While operating vehicle in "D" range, release accelerator, then shift into "L" range. Check that OD-3, 3-2 and 2-1 downshift points are as indicated in the chart.
