Disassembly

DISASSEMBLY
1. Retain sun gear, then turn hub to check operation of one-way clutch, see image. Hub should rotate freely clockwise, and should lock counterclockwise.
2. Remove second brake hub and one-way clutch from inner race.
3. Remove No. 3 planetary carrier thrust washer from sun gear input drum, then the snap ring and sun gear.
4. Remove snap ring.
5. If necessary to replace one-way clutch, proceed as follows:

a. Pry off retainer using suitable tool, then remove one-way clutch.





b. Install new one-way clutch into brake hub, facing spring cable inward from flanged side of brake hub. See image.
c. Retain brake hub in a suitable soft jawed vise, then flatten ears with suitable tool.
d. Ensure retainer is centered, then check for proper operation of one-way clutch as previously described.
