Disassembly

1. Retain sun gear, then turn hub to check operation of one-way clutch, see first image. Hub should rotate freely clockwise, and should lock counter-clockwise.
2. Remove second brake hub and one-way clutch from inner race.
3. Remove No. 3 planetary carrier thrust washer from sun gear input drum, then the snap ring and sun gear.
4. Remove snap ring.
5. If necessary to replace one-way clutch, proceed as follows:

a. Pry off retainer using suitable tool then remove one-way clutch.
b. Install new one-way clutch into brake hub, facing spring cage inward from flanged side of brake hub, see second image.
c. Retain brake hub in a suitable soft jawed vise, then flatten gears with suitable tool.
d. Ensure retainer is centered, then check for proper operation of one-way clutch as previously described.
