Differential Pinion Shaft

1. Install new O-ring onto bearing cage, then place bearing cage onto drive pinion shaft.
2. Install governor drive gear.
3. Tap cage into case until groove with bore is visible. Drive in bearing cage until surface of bearing cage passes through groove with bore.
4. Install snap ring into groove in case, then tap drive pinion until snap ring engages in groove.
5. Install oil slinger, lip facing upward.
6. Drive outer race into case using tool No. J-35663, then install new spacer small end first.
7. Install counter driven gear onto shaft, then the gear until nut can be installed on shaft threads.
8. Install tool No. J-8614-01, then torque nut to 127 ft lbs.
9. Rotate gear counterclockwise then clockwise several times, then measure drive pinion preload.
10. Preload should be 8.7-13.9 inch lbs. on new bearing or 4.3-6.9 on used bearing. If preload is greater than specified, replace bearing spacer. If preload is less than specified, increase nut torque 9 ft lbs. at a time until specified preload has been obtained. Do not back nut off to reduce preload.
11. If the maximum torque of 213 ft lbs has been exceeded, replace bearing spacer then repeat preload procedure.
