Ignition Timing: Adjustments
1. Disconnect and plug the distributor vacuum line from the intake manifold.
2. Connect the timing light lead to the Number 1 spark plug wire.
3. Loosen the distributor flange bolt.
4. Align the notched line on the crankshaft pulley with the mark on the timing cover using the timing light.
- While aligning the notched line on the crankshaft pulley with the timing light, adjust the ignition timing by turning the distributor clockwise or counterclockwise as required.
5. Tighten the distributor bolts and recheck the ignition timing.
6. When tightening the distributor flange bolt, be careful that the distributor body does not rotate together with the flange bolt.
7. Reconnect the distributor vacuum line and check to see that the below listed values are present.
Timing values:
- With vacuum advance disconnected and plugged; 5° BTDC @ 950 RPM max.
- With vacuum advance connected (normal); 13° BTDC
8. Set the idle speed.
9. Recheck the ignition timing.
- If the ignition timing deviates from the specified value, repeat the ignition timing procedure.
