22. Clean threaded holes in engine block using a 12 x 1.75 mm tap.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Automatic transmission oil cooler flushing must be performed when an automatic transmission is removed for service. The flushing procedure should be performed after the installation of the overhauled or replacement transmission. Failure to flush the system may cause damage to the system and its components.

1. Flush the transmission oil cooler. Refer to Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Flushing and Flow Test.
2. Install the transmission.
3. Apply thread locking compound to the transmission housing to engine bolt threads.
4. Install the transmission housing to engine bolts.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

- Tighten the transmission housing to engine block bolts to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
5. Test the torque converter for freedom of rotation.
- The torque converter must rotate freely.
- If not, the torque converter is not fully seated in the pump drive gear. Perform the following:
5.1. Remove the transmission.
5.2. Inspect the transmission pump gears for damage, repair as needed.
5.3. Install the torque converter. The torque converter must be fully seated.
5.4. Install the transmission.
6. Remove the support from the front of the engine.
7. Connect the electrical connectors at the following locations:
- The transmission control selector switch
- The transmission adapter case
- The transmission main case
- The transmission speed sensor
- Attach the harness clip to the housing
8. Install the transmission vent hose.
9. Raise the transmission into position.
10. Install the crossmember.
11. Install the crossmember to body bolts (2).
- Tighten the crossmember to body bolts to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.).
12. Install the crossmember to transmission mount nuts (1).
- Tighten the transmission mount nuts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
13. Remove the transmission support.
