Steering Column Jacket - Disassemble

Disassembly Procedure

- Tools Required
- J21854-01 Pivot Pin Remover
- J23653-91 Compressor Plate Adapter
- J. 23653-SIR Lock Plate Compressor
1. Remove the signal switch housing; refer to Turn Signal Switch Housing-Disassemble-Off Vehicle.
2. Remove the lock housing assembly; refer to Lock Housing Assembly-Disassemble-Off Vehicle.





3. Remove and discard the retaining ring using J23653-91 and J23653-SIR.





4. Remove the spring retainer (1).
5. Remove the upper bearing spring (2).
6. Remove the inner race seat (3).
7. Remove the inner race (4).
8. To remove the tilt spring, refer to Tilt Spring-Disassemble-Off Vehicle.

Important: If the steering column support assembly has been staked more than three times, replace the steering column support assembly.





9. Remove the pivot pins (1) using J21854-01.





10. Pull the tilt lever (1) forward to release the tilt shoes (3) from the column support assembly.





11. Remove the steering column housing assembly (1) from the steering column support (2).
