REAR WHEEL BEARING/HUBRemoval Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
3. Remove the outer tie rod from the rear knuckle. Refer to Outer Adjustment Link Replacement.
4. Use the J42066 and use a 1/2 in breaker bar to counter hold the rear wheel hub.
Important: DO NOT allow the drive shaft to hang freely. Suspend the wheel drive shaft upward.
5. Remove the wheel drive shaft bolts (1).
6. Remove the wheel drive shaft from the rear wheel hub flange.
7. Remove the brake pipe clip from the lower control arm.
8. Remove the brake pipe from the lower control arm.
9. Remove the rear brake caliper.
10. Suspend the rear brake caliper. Refer to Brake Pads Replacement-Rear in Brakes and Traction Control. The brake system remains closed.
11. Remove the brake disc rotor set screw.
12. Remove the brake disc rotor. It may be necessary to back off the parking brake adjustment to remove the brake disc rotor. Refer to Park Brake Lever Adjustment in Brakes and Traction Control.
13. Use the J42072 to back out three of the four brake backing plate bolts to approximately nine revolutions or about 12 mm (0.47 inch). This will allow for the rear wheel hub puller pin installation.
14. Attach the J42094-2 and attach the J42094-1 to the rear wheel hub flange to hold the rear wheel hub while removing the rear wheel hub nut. Use the drive shaft bolts if necessary.
15. Remove the rear wheel hub nut.
16. Lubricate the threads of the J42094-3 with J23444-A
Attach the J42094-3 into the J42094-4.
17. Place the J42094-5 onto the J42094-3.
18. Use the J42094-10 as a spacer to attach the J42094-4 to the J42094-1 with the supplied three bolts.
19. Turn the J42094-3 clockwise to pull off the rear wheel hub flange.
20. Screw the three J42094-7 into the rear knuckle.
21. Attach the J42094-1 with the stem pointed upward, to the three J42094-7.
22. Turn the J42094-3 clockwise to press out the rear wheel hub.
23. Remove the wheel bearing retaining ring.
24. Attach the J42094-6 to the end of the threaded driver.
25. Turn the J42094-3 clockwise to press out the bearing.
Installation Procedure
1. Insert the J42094-8 through the wheel bearing.
2. Install the J42094-9 and J42094-11 onto the shaft of the J42094-3
3. Thread the J42094-8 into the J42094-3.
4. Turn the J42094-4 while holding J42094-3 to press the wheel bearing in until fully seated.
5. Remove the J42094-8 from the tool setup.
6. Install the wheel bearing retaining ring.
7. Attach the J42094-1 to the J42094-7.
8. Remove the supplied anchoring bolts from the J42094-4.
9. Thread the rear wheel hub into the J42094-3.
Important:
^ Center the J42094-3 inside of the wheel bearing to prevent binding of the rear wheel hub while drawing it into the bearing.
^ Adjust the J42094-7 if necessary.
10. Draw the rear wheel hub into the wheel bearing by holding the J42094-3 and turning the J42094-4 clockwise.
11. Remove the tool assembly from the vehicle.
12. Use wheel drive shaft bolts to connect the following special tools to the rear wheel flange:
^ Connect J42094-4.
^ Connect J42094-3.
^ Connect J42094-1.
^ Connect J42094-2.
^ Connect J42094-11.
^ Connect J42094-10.
13. Install the rear wheel hub flange to the rear wheel hub. Ensure the splines are aligned properly.
14. Press the rear wheel hub flange fully onto the rear wheel hub by turning the J42094-4 clockwise and counter-holding with the J42094-3.
15. Remove the following special tools:
^ Remove the J42094-4.
^ Remove the J42094-3.
^ Remove the J42094-10.
^ Remove the J42094-11
16. Leave the following special tools attached to the rear wheel flange:
^ Leave the J42094-1
^ Leave the J42094-2
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
17. Install the rear wheel hub nut.
^ Tighten the rear wheel hub nut to 300 Nm (221 ft. lbs.).
18. Remove the following special tools after tightening the rear wheel hub nut:
^ Remove the J42094-1.
^ Remove the J42094-2.
19. Install the retaining washer. Peen the retaining washer to the rear wheel hub nut.
20. Install the brake backing plate bolts.
^ Tighten Use the J42072 and J36660-A to tighten the brake backing plate bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.) + 40 degrees.
21. Install the brake disc rotor.
22. Install the brake disc rotor set screw.
^ Tighten the disc brake rotor screw to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.).
23. Install the rear brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement-Rear in Brakes and Traction Control.
24. Install the brake pipe to the lower control arm.
25. Secure the brake pipe to the lower control arm with a clip.
26. Install the wheel drive shaft to the rear wheel hub flange.
27. Use the J42066 to counter hold the rear wheel hub.
28. Install the wheel drive shaft bolts (1).
^ Tighten Use J36660-A to tighten the wheel drive shaft bolts (1) to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.) + 70 degrees.
29. Install outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Refer to Outer Adjustment Link Replacement.
30. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
31. Lower the vehicle.
