Compressor Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURE1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
3. Remove the compressor hose bolt.
Access through the top of the engine compartment.
4. Remove the intake air resonator.
5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
6. Remove the compressor hose O-rings.
7. Remove the compressor hose clamp to air pipe bracket bolt (1).
8. Remove the compressor hose bracket to oil pan bolt.
9. Remove the drive belt.
10. Remove the front compressor bolts.
11. Remove the rear compressor bolts (1)
12. Disconnect the compressor connector.
13. Lower the vehicle.
14. Remove the compressor through the top of the engine compartment.
15. If replacing the compressor, drain and measure as much of the oil as possible from the removed compressor:
15.1. Drain the oil from both the suction and discharge ports of the removed compressor into a clean container.
15.2. Remove the compressor crankcase oil drain bolt (1) and drain the crankcase oil from the removed compressor into the same container.
15.3. Measure and record the amount of oil drained from the removed compressor.
This measurement will be used during installation of the replacement compressor.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Replacement compressor will come without refrigerant oil. When adding oil to this compressor, adhere closely to the following instructions:
1.1. If the amount of oil drained from the old compressor is less than or equal to 60 ml (2 oz), add 60 ml of new clean oil to the new compressor.
1.2. If the amount of oil drained from the old compressor is greater than 60 ml (2 oz) add the same amount of new clean oil to the new compressor as drained from the old compressor.
2. Install the compressor through the top of the engine compartment.
3. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
4. Install the rear compressor mounting bolts (1).
5. Install the front compressor mounting bolts.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
6. Tighten the compressor mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the compressor mounting bolts to 40 N.m (30 lb ft).
7. Install the drive belt.
8. Install the compressor hose bracket to oil pan bolt.
Tighten

9. Install the compressor hose clamp to air pipe bracket bolt (1).
Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose clamp to air pipe bolt to 8 N.m (71 lb in).
10. Install the compressor hose O-rings:
^ Use new O-rings.
^ Lubricate the new O-rings with mineral oil, 525 viscosity.
11. Install the compressor hose.
12. Install the compressor hose bolt.
13. Connect the compressor connector.
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Tighten the compressor hose bolt.
