Valve Lifter Replacement
Removal Procedure1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
2. Remove the intake plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum Replacement.
3. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement.
4. Remove the relevant valve cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement (Right) or Camshaft Cover Replacement (Left).
5. Remove the intake air resonator. Refer to Intake Air Resonator Replacement in Powertrain Management.
6. Remove the front timing belt cover. Refer to Timing Belt Cover Replacement.
7. Remove the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement.
8. Remove the relevant camshaft sprocket(s). Refer to Camshaft Drive Sprocket Replacement.
9. Remove the relevant camshaft(s). Refer to Camshaft Replacement (Right) or Camshaft Replacement (Left).
10. Remove the lifter(s) (1). Place the lifter(s) in a rack sequentially so they can be reinstalled in their original order if the lifter(s) is to be reused.
Installation Procedure
1. Lubricate the lifter(s) (1) with prelube, GM P/N 12345501 or equivalent.
2. Install the lifter(s) in their original position if not replaced.
3. Install the relevant camshaft(s). Refer to Camshaft Replacement (Right) or Camshaft Replacement (Left).
4. Install the relevant camshaft sprocket(s). Refer to Camshaft Drive Sprocket Replacement.
5. Install the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement
6. Install the front timing belt cover. Refer to Timing Belt Cover Replacement.
7. Install the intake air resonator. Refer to Intake Air Resonator Replacement in Powertrain Management.
8. Install the relevant valve cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement (Right) or Camshaft Cover Replacement (Left).
9. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement.
10. Install the intake plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum Replacement.
11. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
