Radiator: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
2. Remove the upper radiator covers:
^ Release the self-locking tabs.
^ Remove the upper radiator cover screws.
^ Remove the upper radiator covers.
3. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
4. Remove the intake air resonator. Refer to Intake Air Resonator Replacement in Powertrain Management.
5. Disconnect the electrical connectors at the following locations:
^ The primary cooling fan
^ The cooling fan control switches
6. Disconnect the surge tank hose (1) from the radiator.
7. Disconnect the transmission oil cooler hoses from the oil cooler pipes.
8. Remove the transmission oil cooler pipe retainer bracket bolts.
9. Position the pipes away from the radiator.
10. Disconnect the coolant hose from the secondary auxiliary coolant pump.
11. Remove the secondary AIR cut-off valve bracket bolts from the fan housing.
12. Remove the transmission oil cooler to radiator bracket bolts.





13. Remove the condenser-to-radiator bracket bolts (1).
14. Remove the radiator inlet/outlet hoses from the radiator.
15. Remove the transmission oil cooler.
16. Disconnect the secondary auxiliary coolant pump connector.
17. Remove the upper radiator upper mounting retainers.
18. Lift and rock the radiator and primary fan together to unseat lower retainers.
19. Remove the radiator (2) and the primary fan together from the radiator support.
20. Remove the primary fan bolts.
21. Remove the primary fan from the radiator.
22. Remove the cooling fan control switches, if necessary.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the cooling fan control switches, if removed.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the primary fan to the radiator, if removed:
^ Engage the tab.
^ Install the primary fan bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the primary fan bolts to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.).
3. Install the radiator (2) and primary fan together to the radiator support:
^ Engage the tabs on the bottom of the radiator in the lower retainers.
^ Engage the upper retainers in the radiator support brackets.
4. Connect the secondary auxiliary coolant pump connector.
5. Install the radiator inlet/outlet hoses to the radiator.
6. Install the condenser-to-radiator bracket bolts (1) until fully seated and not stripped.
7. Install the secondary AIR cut-off valve bracket to the fan housing.
8. Install the bracket bolts.
Tighten the secondary AIR cut-off valve bolts to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.).




9. Install the coolant hose to the secondary auxiliary coolant pump.
10. Install the transmission oil cooler
11. Install the transmission oil cooler to radiator bracket bolts until fully seated and not stripped.
12. Connect the transmission oil cooler hoses to the oil cooler pipes.
13. Install the transmission oil cooler pipe retainer bracket bolts until fully seated and not stripped.
14. Connect the surge tank hose (1) to the radiator.
15. Connect the electrical connectors at the following locations:
^ The primary cooling fan
^ The cooling fan control switches
16. Install the intake air resonator. Refer to Intake Air Resonator Replacement in Powertrain Management.
17. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
18. Install the upper radiator covers:
^ Position the upper radiator covers.
^ Install the upper radiator cover screws.
^ Insert the self-locking tabs.
19. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
