Engine Compartment Fan: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

Caution: An electric fan under the hood can start up even when the engine Is not running and can injure you. Keep hands, clothing and tools away from any underhood electric fan.





1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging in Heating and Air Conditioning.
3. Remove the A/C condenser. Refer to Condenser Replacement in Heating and Air Conditioning.
4. Disconnect the fan connectors.
5. Remove the fans from the radiator support:
- Tilt the fans rearward to unseat the upper retainers (2).
- Lift the fans to unseat the lower retainers.





6. Remove the fan blade clips (1).
7. Remove the fan blades.
8. Remove the fan motor bolts.
9. Remove the fan motors from the fan shrouds.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the fan motors to the fan shrouds.
2. Install the fan motor bolts until fully seated and not stripped.
3. Install the fan blades.
4. Install the fan blade retainer clips (1).





5. Install the fans (1) to the radiator support:
- Seat the fans into the lower retainers.
- Tilt the fans forward to seat in the upper retainers.
6. Connect the fan connectors.
7. Install the A/C condenser. Refer to Condenser Replacement in Heating and Air Conditioning.
8. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
9. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging in Heating and Air Conditioning.
