Parking Brake Lever: Service and Repair
Removal Procedure1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the exhaust muffler heat shields. Refer to Exhaust Heat Shield Replacement in Exhaust System.
3. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement - Two Piece in Transmission and Drivetrain.
4. Measure the length of the exposed shaft thread from the nut to the end of the shaft.
5. Record the measurement.
6. Remove the parking brake shoe adjuster nut (1) from the parking brake lever shaft (2).
Important: Clean and lubricate the exposed threads of the shaft before attempting to turn the adjuster nut.
7. Remove the parking brake cable guide from the parking brake lever shaft.
8. Remove the parking brake cable adjuster link boot (1) from the parking brake lever shaft (2).
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Remove the upper section of the center console. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
11. Remove the parking brake lever bolts (1) from the lever.
12. Slightly lift the lever assembly from the underbody.
13. Disconnect the parking brake switch connector (1) from the parking brake switch (2).
14. Remove the parking brake lever.
15. Remove the parking brake switch bolt (1) from the parking brake indicator switch (2).
16. Remove the parking brake switch.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the parking brake switch.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the parking brake switch bolt (1).
^ Tighten the parking brake switch bolt to 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.).
3. Connect the parking brake switch connector (1) to the parking brake switch (2).
4. Install the parking brake lever.
5. Install the parking brake lever bolts (1).
^ Tighten the parking brake lever bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the section of the center console. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
7. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
8. Install the parking brake cable adjuster link boot (1) to the parking brake lever shaft (2).
9. Install the parking brake cable guide.
10. Install the parking brake shoe adjuster nut (1) to the parking brake lever shaft (2).
11. Adjust the parking brake shoe adjuster nut (1) to the recorded measurement from the installation procedure.
12. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement - Two Piece in Transmission and Drivetrain.
13. Test the parking brake operation. Refer to Park Brake Lever Adjustment.
14. Install the exhaust muffler heat shields. Refer to Exhaust Heat Shield Replacement in Exhaust System.
15. Lower the vehicle.
