Parking Brake Backing Plate: Service and Repair
Removal Procedure^ Tools Required
- J 42072 Rear Brake Backing Plate Bolt Remover
1. Remove the wheel bearing hub. Refer to Wheel Bearing Hub Replacement - Rear.
2. Remove the parking brake shoes with the related hardware. Refer to Park Brake Shoe Replacement.
3. Use the J 42072 to remove the backing plate bolts (1) from the brake backing plate (2).
4. Remove the parking brake anchor (3) from the brake backing plate (2).
5. Remove the brake backing plate (2) from the axle control arm (1).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the park brake shoe retaining pins, if removed.
2. Install the brake backing plate (2).to the axle control arm (1).
3. Install the parking brake anchor (3) to the brake backing plate (2).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
4. Use the J 42072 to install the backing plate bolts (1) to the brake backing plate (2).
^ Tighten the backing plate bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the parking brake shoes with the related hardware. Refer to Park Brake Shoe Replacement.
6. Install the wheel bearing hub. Refer to Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear.
7. Test the parking brake operation. Refer to Park Brake Lever Adjustment.
