DTC 068
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic and seat belt pretensioner module (SDM) contains a sensing device which converts vehicle velocity changes to an electrical signal. The SDM processes the generated electrical signals and compares them to values stored in memory. When the generated signals exceed the stored value, the SDM performs additional signal processing and compares the generated signals to signals stored in memory. When two of the generated signals exceed the stored values, the SDM causes current to flow through the inflatable restraint driver seat module, deploying the driver side air bag and causing the DTC to set.
CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC
The ignition voltage must be within the normal operating range.
CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic and seat belt pretensioner module (SDM) detects a side impact of sufficient force to warrant deployment of the driver side air bag.
ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
^ The SDM turns ON the AIR BAG warning lamp.
^ The SDM records the crash data.
CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE DTC
The SDM has the ability to command three side air bag deployments. After that, the SDM must be replaced.
TEST DESCRIPTION
Steps 1 - 6:
The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table:
2. This step checks to see if the driver side air bag has deployed.
3. This step determines if there is damage to the front of the vehicle and the undercarriage or if there is a malfunctioning SDM.
