Strut Assembly Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the nuts attaching the top of the strut assembly to the body.
2. Raise the vehicle and support the frame with jack stands.
3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.

NOTICE: Whenever working near the drive axles, care must be taken to prevent inner tri-pot joints from being overextended. Overextension of the joint could result in separation of internal components which could go undetected and result in failure of the joint.

NOTICE: Care should be taken to avoid scratching or cracking the spring coating when handling the front suspension coil spring. Damage can cause premature failure.

4. Remove the Road Sensing Suspension position sensor from the lower control arm. If equipped
5. Scribe the knuckle and strut.
6. Remove the brake line bracket from the strut.
7. Remove the stabilizer link from the strut.
8. Remove the strut electrical connector (4.6L only).
9. Remove the anti-lock brake sensor connector.





10. Remove the strut-to-knuckle bolts (1) and support the knuckle with wire.
11. Remove the strut.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the strut while aligning scribe marks.





2. Install the strut-to-knuckle bolts (8).
3. Install the strut electrical connector.
4. Install the ABS sensor.
5. Install the stabilizer link to strut.
6. Install the brake line bracket to strut.
7. Install the Road Sensing Suspension position sensor to lower control arm on 4.6L. If equipped.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

8. Install the nuts attaching the top of the strut to the body.
9. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
^ Tighten the wheel nuts to 140 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the stabilizer link nuts to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the strut assembly-to-body nuts to 21 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the steering knuckle-to-strut nuts to 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.).

10. Lower the vehicle.
