Accelerator Controls Cable Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURE1. Remove the left instrument panel sound insulator.
2. Remove the accelerator cable (1) from the accelerator pedal (2).
3. Remove the accelerator cable retainer (3).
Description:
4. Squeeze accelerator cable cover tangs and push cable through dash panel (bulkhead).
5. Remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator cable bracket.
NOTE: Cruise throttle cam not shown.
Removing Accelerator Cable From Throttle Body:
6. Hold the throttle valve open completely.
7. Push the accelerator cable (1) toward the intake manifold (2) until released.
IMPORTANT: Do Not kink accelerator cable. Do Not use a screwdriver or other sharp tool for removing cable.
8. Remove the accelerator cable at the throttle body lever (3).
9. Remove the cable.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTE: In order to prevent possible interference and damage, flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) must not be routed within 50 mm (2 in) of moving parts, unless the routing is positively controlled.
IMPORTANT: Accelerator cable must be routed through groove in throttle body lever and seated securely.
Installing Accelerator Cable To Throttle Body:
1. Hold the throttle valve open completely.
2. Push the accelerator cable (1) into the throttle body lever (2).
NOTE: Route the accelerator cable through the groove in throttle body lever. Securely seat the accelerator cable.
3. Pull accelerator cable until a snap is heard, indicating that the accelerator cable is seated.
Throttle Valve (Shown Open):
4. Open throttle valve.
5. Disconnect and connect the cruise control cable the same way.
6. Route the accelerator cable under brake master cylinder and through the dash panel (bulkhead).
7. Secure the retainer at the dash.
8. Secure the cable at the accelerator pedal.
IMPORTANT: Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal. Throttle should operate freely without bind between full closed and wide open throttle.
9. Check for a complete throttle opening and closing positions.
10. Install the left instrument panel sound insulator.
