EGR Valve: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid.
2. Remove the fuel line bracket nut (if equipped).
3. Lift the fuel line bracket off the stud (if equipped).
4. Push fuel line bracket away from the EGR valve base (if equipped).
5. Remove the mounting nuts and/or bolts from the base of the EGR valve.
6. Remove the EGR Valve.
^ Inspect the EGR passages in the crossover water pump housing for deposits.
^ Clean the EGR passages as needed.
7. Clean the mounting surface for the EGR valve.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install cleaned or replacement EGR valve using a new gasket.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the two mounting nuts and/or bolts at the EGR valve base.

Tighten
Tighten the 2 mounting nuts and/or bolts to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).

3. Place the fuel line bracket onto the EGR valve stud (if equipped).
4. Install the fuel line bracket nut (if equipped).

Tighten
Tighten the 1 bracket nut to 19 N.m (14 lb ft) (if equipped).

5. Connect the electrical connector to EGR solenoid.
