Canister/Fuel Tank

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 34730-1A Fuel Pressure Gauge

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to Fuel and [1][2]EVAP Pipe Installation Caution in Service Precautions.

NOTE:
^ Do Not attempt to repair the [1][2]EVAP pipes or the connecting hoses. Replace the damaged EVAP pipes or the connecting hoses are damaged. If the nylon EVAP pipe becomes kinked and cannot be straightened, it must be replaced.
^ Properly secure the [1][2]EVAP pipe in order to prevent chafing of the pipe.




1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
2. Drain the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Draining Procedure.
3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
4. Remove the fuel tank.




5. Remove the hardware retaining the [1][2]EVAP pipes.
6. Note the location of the retaining hardware for installation.
7. Remove the [1][2]EVAP pipes (3) at the EVAP canister (1).
8. Remove the [1][2]EVAP pipes at the fuel tank.
9. Remove the [1][2]EVAP pipes.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Refer to Fuel System Ground Notice in Service Precautions.

IMPORTANT: Route the replacement [1][2]EVAP pipe in the same manner as the original pipe was routed.




1. Reinstall the fuel tank.

NOTE: Refer to Properly Secured [1][2]EVAP Pipe Notice in Service Precautions.




2. Install the [1][2]EVAP pipes to the chassis.
3. Connect the [1][2]EVAP pipes (3) to the EVAP canister (1).
4. Add fuel to the fuel tank.
5. Reinstall the fuel tank filler pipe cap.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

6. Connect the negative battery cable.
7. Inspect for leaks.
7.1. Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds.
7.2. Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds.
7.3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
7.4. Check for fuel leaks.
8. Reinstall the intake manifold sight shield.
