Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair

CONDENSER REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling and Recharging (ACR4) System

1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the core support tiller panel.
4. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
5. Remove the hood release cable and position aside.
6. Remove the SIR discriminating sensor.
7. Remove the front engine torque struts.
8. Disconnect the upper transmission cooler line from the radiator.
9. Remove the cooling fans.
10. Remove the condenser inlet and outlet lines.




11. Remove the radiator core upper support.
12. Remove the condenser to radiator attachment bolts.
13. Remove the condenser (3).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Electronic Halogen Leak Detector

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

1. Install the condenser (3) to the vehicle.

Tighten
Tighten the condenser mounting bolts to 12 N.m (9 lb ft).

2. Install the radiator core upper support.




3. Install the refrigerant lines to the condenser (3).

Tighten
Tighten the condenser line fittings to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).

4. Install the cooling fans.
5. Install the upper transmission cooler line to the radiator.
6. Install the hood release cable.
7. Install the air cleaner assembly.
8. Install the front engine torque struts.
9. Install the SIR discriminating sensor.
10. Install the core support filler panel.
11. Connect the negative battery cable.
12. Check and fill the transmission fluid as needed.
13. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
14. Leak test the A/C system. Refer to Leak Testing. Testing and Inspection
