Exhaust Pipe: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

- Tools Required
- J 29800 Cut-Off Tool

Important: Service mufflers are necessary, when replacing the intermediate pipe on an originally-equipped welded system.





1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Support the catalytic converter and muffler.
3. Remove the intermediate pipe hanger and tunnel brace.





4. Cut the pipe (1) at the converter and the muffler using J 29800 cut-off tool. Cut forward, toward the weld, at the converter-to- resonator pipe (2).
5. Remove the remaining portion of the pipe from the catalytic converter.





6. Remove the muffler hanger(s) and the muffler/tailpipe assembly.





7. Remove the rear intermediate pipe hanger and the intermediate pipe.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the intermediate pipe and the rear pipe hanger.
2. Install the muffler to the intermediate pipe and the hanger. Use a saddle/ U-bolt type clamp.
3. Install the intermediate pipe to the converter. Use a U-bolt type clamp.
4. Install the intermediate pipe hanger and tunnel brace.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Align the exhaust system.

- Tighten the nuts to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.).
