Timing Cover: Service and Repair
Removal Procedure1. Remove the drive belt.
2. Remove the bolt securing the power steering hose.
3. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
4. Remove the belt tensioner.
5. Remove the belt idler pulley.
6. Remove the front cover bolts.
7. Remove the front cover and gasket. The gasket is reusable. Do not discard unless it is damaged.
Installation Procedure
1. Place a small daub of RTV sealant at the split line of the upper and lower crankcases.
2. Cover the gasket over the dowel pins.
3. Install the front cover over the dowel pins.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
4. Install the front cover bolts.
- Tighten the front cover bolts to 10 Nm (89 in. lbs.).
5. Install the belt idler pulley.
- Tighten the idler pulley bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the belt tensioner.
- Tighten the belt tensioner bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the crankshaft balancer.
8. Install the power steering hose retainer.
9. Install the drive belt.
