33. Crankshaft Balancer Clean and Inspect

Cleaning Procedure





1. Clean the crankshaft balancer in solvent.

Caution: Wear safety glasses in order to avoid eye damage.

2. Dry the crankshaft balancer with compressed air.

Inspection Procedure
1. Inspect the crankshaft balancer for the following:
- Worn or damaged hub-to-crankshaft surface (1)
- Worn, grooved, or damaged hub seal surface (2)
- A crankshaft balancer hub seal surface with excessive scoring, grooves, rust, or other damage must be replaced.
- Minor imperfections on the hub seal surface may be removed with a polishing compound or fine grade emery cloth.
- Bent, damaged or missing crankshaft front oil seal shield (3)
- Worn, chunking, or deteriorated rubber between the hub and pulley (4)
- Damaged drive belt ribs (5)
2. Repair or replace the crankshaft balancer as necessary.
