Thermostat: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the coolant.
3. Remove the air intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Intake Duct Replacement in Powertrain Management.
4. Disconnect the radiator hose.





5. Remove the thermostat housing.





6. Remove the thermostat.
7. Clean all sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the thermostat.
2. Install the thermostat housing using a new gasket.





3. Install the thermostat housing bolts.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

- Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).





4. Connect the radiator hose.
5. Install the air intake duct.
6. Refill the coolant.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
8. Start the engine.
9. Check for leaks.
