Backing Plate: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lift Points in General Information.
2. Remove the brake drum and components.
3. Disconnect the brake pipe from the wheel cylinder.
4. Disconnect the park brake cable from the backing plate.
5. Remove the hub and bearing bolts.
6. Remove the backing plate.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Install the backing plate.
2. Install the hub and bearing with bolts.
3. Connect the park brake cable to the backing plate.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Connect the brake pipe to the wheel cylinder.
Tighten the brake pipe fitting (tube nut).

Tighten the brake pipe fitting to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).

5. Install the brake drum and components.
6. Bleed the brake hydraulic system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding in Hydraulic Brakes.
7. Adjust the service brakes.
8. Adjust the parking brake.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Check for proper brake operation.
