Front Door Panel: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Disable the SIR system.

CAUTION: Striking the vehicle near the side air bag impact sensor can cause an air bag deployment if the ignition switch is not OFF. To help avoid personal injury and damage to the vehicle from a deployment, always turn the ignition switch to OFF during body repairs.

2. Remove the power window switch assembly.
3. Remove the door trim plate.
4. Gently pull the trim panel inboard in order to disengage the trim fastener that retains the outside rearview mirror trim cover.
5. Remove the fasteners.

IMPORTANT: If the door trim panel hooks are damaged during removal, a repair kit J 42983 is available for trim panel hook repairs. Refer to J 42983.

6. Remove the door trim panel (5) by lifting upward and outward in order to disengage the hooks from the door.

7. Disconnect the electrical connectors (3) from the trim panel (5).
8. Remove the trim panel.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE



1. Partially install the trim panel.
2. Connect the electrical connectors (3) to the trim panel (5).




3. Install the door trim panel (1). Perform the following steps:
3.1. Align the hooks with the door.
3.2. Push in and downward on the trim panel in order to secure.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

4. Install the fasteners (2).

Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in).

5. Install the outside rearview mirror trim cover with the trim fastener.
6. Install the door trim plate.
7. Install the power window switch assembly.
8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
