Audio System - AM Reception Poor

File In Section: 08 - Body and Accessories

Bulletin No.: 99-08-44-004

Date: June, 1999

TECHNICAL

Subject:
AM Radio Reception Poor (Replace Radio Assembly)

Models:
1998-99 Cadillac Seville
1999 Cadillac DeVille and Eldorado
Built prior to January 29, 1999

Condition
Some customers may comment that the reception is poor on the AM radio band.

Cause
This condition may be caused by the intrusion of FM signals on the AM band around the 750 and 850 KHz range.

Important:
For the U1L Radio Assembly, the condition may also be due to overhead power lines.

Correction
Modifications were made to the tuner circuitry, changing the value of three components. Also, one component on all the radio assemblies, excluding the U1L Radio Assembly (Reman P/N 9378732) was changed from a surface mount to an axial leaded device.

Perform a Radio Diagnostic System Check in order to determine the cause. If the cause is related to "AM overload" or "FM intrusion on AM band" and the affected radio assembly is listed below in Pants Information in the RPO column, replace it with the corresponding radio assembly listed below in Parts Information under Reman P/N.

Refer to the Entertainment sub-section in Body & Accessories of the Service Manual for replacement procedures.
