30. Input Sprag Assembly Removal

^ Tools Required
- J 38450-A Third Clutch Snap Ring Compressor





1. Separate the second clutch assembly (618-630) from the third clutch assembly (634-650).
2. Remove the second clutch to third clutch thrust washer (631). The washer may be stuck to the second clutch drum.
3. Inspect the thrust Washer for wear and damage.





4. Place the third clutch drum assembly (634) upright into a soft jawed vise or use the overdrive internal gear (528) as a support.
5. Compress the sprag retainer ring (648) using a screwdriver through the side slot.
6. Place one J 38450-A between the retainer ring and the third clutch housing.
7. Repeat this procedure to install six J 38450-A equally spaced around the retainer ring.





8. Pull up on the input sun gear (646) until the sprag retainer ring (648) clears the ring groove.
9. Remove J 38450-A.
10. Remove the sprag race assembly (647-650) from the third clutch drum assembly (634).
11. Remove the input,shaft bearing retaining washer (636).
12. Remove the input shaft bearing (645).
13. Remove the input sun gear thrust washer (644).
14. Inspect the washers and bearings for damage.
