51. Oil Pump Installation
Important: Do not cover and/or restrict the gasket openings and oil passages with sealant. Only apply sealant to the crosshatched area of the gasket as shown in the illustration.
1. Coat the pump side of the new oil pump gasket with a thin, even coating of GM P/N 1052942 or equivalent.
2. Install the oil pump gasket.
3. Install the oil pump and align with the guide pins (2).
4. Coat the new oil pump bolts with GM P/N 12345493 or equivalent.
5. Install the oil pump bolts.
^ Tighten the oil pump bolts, using the sequence shown, to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the collar.
7. Coat the lip of the front main oil seal with a small amount of GM P/N 12377985 chassis grease, or equivalent, to aid in installation.
8. Install the front main oil seal.
9. Use the J35268-A to tap the front main oil seal into place. Ensure the front main oil seal if fully and evenly seated.
10. Install the crankshaft drive gear.
11. Install a new crankshaft drive gear bolt.
^ Tighten the crankshaft drive gear bolt, while counterholding with J42065, to 250 Nm (184 ft. lbs.) on the first pass, 45 degrees on the second pass and 15 degrees on the third pass.
Important: The oil pump bolts must be re-tightened AFTER the generator mounting bolt has been tightened to specifications to allow for uniform compression of the oil pump gasket.
12. Temporarily mount the generator and install the generator lower mounting bolt (3).
^ Tighten the generator lower mounting bolt (3) to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
13. Re-tighten the oil pump bolts in sequence.
^ Tighten the oil pump bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
14. Remove the generator bolt and the generator.
